When there was only one decoration left in the dish, the song was not sung. Moreover, in some areas it was believed that the girl who owned the object would be married, while in others it was believed that she would remain single.
In a number of villages, a wedding song was sung to the last participant, and his ring, taken from a dish, was passed along the floor and watched where it would roll. If the ring rolled to the threshold, the girl was predicted to get married soon, and the guy was on his way.
In fortune telling, the dish played the role of a boundary connecting the world of the living with the world of spirits. If water was poured into a vessel used in the ritual, it had to be brought from an ice hole or a well - a channel that connected people with otherworldly spheres. Before adding their decoration, each participant made a cross-shaped movement along the edge of the vessel.
As a modern version of sub-dish fortune-telling, you can perform such a ritual. Place different items on a plate according to the number of participants, cover with a scarf and shake.
