Second Coming Events

Time of the Second Coming

Jesus told his disciples about the second coming

Signs of approach

The apostles also pointed out some signs of this time, such as: the appearance of many false Christs (Matthew; 1 John), the spread of the gospel preaching throughout the world, to all nations (Matthew), the impoverishment of faith and love in people (Matthew; Luke), fear of the disasters that should befall the Earth (Luke) and the appearance of the lawless one (Greek. ὁ ἄνομος ) (2 Thess.), that is, the Antichrist.

  1. Rev. - “and every eye will see Him”;
  2. Mf. - “and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory”;
  3. Mr. - “Then they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with much power and glory”;
  4. OK. - “people will faint from fear and anticipation of [disasters] coming to the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken, and then they will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.”

In some schools of liberal theology, the Second Coming of Christ is understood as an invisible presence on earth.

Rapture of the Church

At the same time, closely related to the doctrine of the Second Coming of Christ is the doctrine of the Rapture (Ascension) of the Church, based on a number of passages of the New Testament ( “Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” 1 Thess. , and also 1 Cor. etc.) According to them, at the Second Coming the Church will be raptured into heaven to meet Christ.

In Christian theology, there are different opinions regarding the timing of the Rapture of the Church: whether it will occur simultaneously with the Second Coming, or some time before it (before the period or in the middle of the Great Tribulation period).

The author of Lectures on Systematic Theology, Henry Clarence Thiessen, found statements that the Rapture and the Second Coming are different events separated in time already in ancient Christian works: the treatise Against Heresies by Irenaeus of Lyons and The Shepherd of Hermas. However, according to Thyssen, in the first centuries of Christianity "there was some confusion on this issue".

Before the second coming there will be a resurrection of those who have died in Christ and a transformation of the faithful who remain alive. Some Christian denominations (Baptists, Pentecostals, etc.) believe that at this time the rapture of the Church and its meeting with Christ in the clouds will occur. (1 Thess.; 1 Cor.; Phil.; 1 John).

The Second Coming will be joyful for Christians (1 Pet.; 2 Tim.) and at the same time terrible and threatening for non-Christians, since now Christ will come to judge the world (see article The Last Judgment). [ ]

After the judgment, eternity will come, blissful in communion with Christ for some and painful for others. (John; Dan., etc.)

The Second Coming in Various Doctrines and Denominations

  • Entry into force of the new world order (planetary system of power);
  • Introduction of a unified financial system;
  • Manifestation in human form of the “man of sin” - the Antichrist;
  • Transferring to him from the strongest politicians in the world all power on earth;
  • Restoration of the Jewish Temple of Jerusalem (Third Temple);
  • Ban on faith in Christ, physical extermination of Christians and dissidents, restriction of personal freedoms;
  • Militia of peoples against the state of Israel and war with it.

The following historical events were considered by some 19th century theologians (Joseph Wolff, Edward Irving, William Miller, Joseph Smith, Leonard Kelber, Mason, Winthrop) as the possible beginning of the fulfillment of the prophecy of Jesus Christ about his second coming [ ] :

  • Lisbon earthquake of November 1, 1755.
  • Solar eclipse May 19, 1780.
  • Two-day starfall from November 12 to 13, 1833.
  • Edict of Toleration in the Holy Land, March 21, 1844.
  • Religious revival at the end of the 18th and first half of the 19th centuries in England and the USA.

Buddhism

This is what the great sage Gautama Shakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, said about the coming of Maitreya Bodhisattva (who in the future will become Buddha):

“So, my brothers! In those days, the Exalted One will appear in the world, Who will speak under the name of Maitreya (the three arhats who have achieved perfect enlightenment), endowed with wisdom and justice, the blessed Youth, the knower of the world, the incomparable Leader, the tamer of humanity, the Teacher of devas and people, the ascended Buddha, equal to Me. He will restore the norms - merciful in the beginning, merciful in the middle and merciful in the end. He will preach a full, true life - externally and spiritually. And He will lead a Brotherhood of many thousands, just as I now lead a Brotherhood of many hundreds...”

Maitreya(Sansk. Maitreya - “Merciful”) - in the mythology of Buddhism - the awaited Buddha. Buddhist legends say that the Buddha met Maitreya in the Tushita heaven and appointed him as his successor on earth, so that he would appear as the Buddha in the distant future.

Islam

According to Islamic doctrine, at the end of time, Al-Masih ad-Dajjal (false messiah, antichrist) will appear before the End of the World. His appearance will mark the trials that people will face. Ad-Dajjal's reign would last for several years, after which he would gather a huge army under his leadership and begin a war against those who rejected him. And at that moment he will appear from heaven

Question: The Bible talks about the Second Coming of Christ. How and when will it happen? Alexander
Answer: The events of the present time are of great interest to everyone living on earth. But God always warned people about future destruction. Those who believed in His signs and acted in faith, obeying the commandments of God, avoided the judgments that befell the disobedient and unfaithful.
Remember Noah? And the word came to Noah: “Enter you and all your family into the ark; for I have seen you righteous before Me” (Genesis 7:1). Noah obeyed God and was saved. What about Lot's story? And Lot and his family were told: “Get up, get out of this place, for the Lord will destroy this city” (Genesis 19:14). Lot entrusted himself to the care of heavenly messengers and was saved.

Did God's warnings end with the Old Testament? No. Christ predicted to His disciples that Jerusalem would be destroyed. History tells us that those who observed the signs of the approaching disaster and fled Jerusalem escaped death during its destruction.
So today we are given a warning about the Second Coming of Christ and the destruction of the whole world. Whoever heeds the warning will be saved.
First, we CANNOT know the exact date of Christ's coming. The Bible says: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but only My Father” (Matthew 24:36). But there are signs by observing which we can say that this event is close:

1. Wars: “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom...” (Matthew 24:7). 20 million people died during the First World War, 50 million people. - During the Second World War. And now there are constant hostilities. You will say: there have been wars before. Yes they were. Only the number of deaths in these wars was in the hundreds and thousands, and now in the millions.

2. Famine: “...And there will be famines...” (Matthew 24:7). Every week, 250 thousand people die from hunger. More than 100 million children will die of hunger this decade.

3. Epidemics: “... And there will be... pestilences...” (Matthew 24:7). Despite the successes of modern medicine, in our time there are many diseases that cause mass deaths.

4. Ecology: Another sign of the times is environmental pollution and global warming. The Bible predicts that our world will decay. In Isaiah 51:6, God says, “Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look down on the earth; for the heavens will disappear like smoke, and the earth will wear out like clothing...”

5. Earthquakes: “And there will be…earthquakes in places” (Matthew 24:7). Every year, about 1 million earthquakes are recorded in the world. In the last 90 years alone, 1,500,000 people have died. And these statistics are growing year by year.

6. Depravity of Society: The Bible warns: “Know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unfriendly, unforgiving, slanderers, intemperate, cruel, not loving what is good, traitors, insolent, pompous, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God who have a form of godliness, and denied his powers” (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Looking at the world around us, we understand that comments are unnecessary.

7. Fear (terrorism): “People will die for fear” (Luke 21:26). The attack on New York, explosions in the London subway, asphyxiating gas in the Tokyo subway, the death of innocent people on the streets of Moscow, Tel Aviv, Baghdad and many other cities. Today, these events are becoming commonplace and make the inhabitants of the Earth constantly fear for their own lives and the lives of their children.

8. Preaching the Gospel: Jesus said, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). The gospel is preached all over the world from television screens, on the radio, through the Internet, through literature and simply in personal conversations.

Secondly, there will NOT be a flood - God Himself said so: “I have established My covenant with you, that all flesh shall no longer be destroyed by the waters of a flood, and there shall no more be a flood to destroy the earth” (Genesis 9:11). There will be tsunamis and floods (which we are seeing now), but the Earth will not perish from the waters of the flood.

Third, the coming of Christ will be a real event: “This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him going into heaven” (Acts 1:11), visible and audible to all people: “Like lightning comes from the east and is visible even to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 24:27); “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet of God” (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

Fourthly, they will try to fake the coming of Christ. Jesus warned His disciples: “Beware that no one deceives you, for many will come in My name, saying that I am He; and they will deceive many” (Mark 13:5-6).

Fifthly, this will be the culminating event, after which life on our sin-plagued planet will completely change. “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things will no longer be remembered or come to the heart” (Isaiah 65:17).

Let us add that the events of the Second Coming of Christ will not seem so terrible if you wait not for something (that is, disasters and destruction), but for Someone - a loving Lord and Savior, Who will not allow those who sincerely believe in Him to perish. Because God will prepare a new heaven and a new earth in which the redeemed will dwell.

SECOND COMING- in Christian doctrine, the second appearance of Christ (the Savior) on Earth at the “end of the world” (the end of the world) after the end of humanity’s earthly existence. The promise of the coming is one of the powerful arguments in the educational influence of the church on the flock (believers), for along with the second coming the Last Judgment of sinners is also expected.

Waiting for the next appearance of the Savior for 2 thousand years gave rise to many unfulfilled predictions and disappointments in prophecies and prophets.

Will Christ return a second time? Christ himself was the first to answer this question (of course, positively). Later, not a single mortal (with the exception of notorious blasphemers and ordinary atheists) doubted the second coming. The dates for which were always given were different, and each time they were quite close.

Not one of the numerous true predictions came true, with the only caveat being that all mental hospitals are filled with false Jesuses. However, we must admit that if the real Christ appeared now, alas, in a world mired in sin, he, with his “out-of-date views,” would also run a great risk of ending up in a mental hospital.

In 1917, knowledge of the place of the second coming was established in the Catholic Church immediately after the appearance before a crowd of thousands of witnesses of the Mother of God in the village of Fatima, near Lisbon in Portugal. This phenomenon is called the “third secret of Fatima.” The only girl (out of three children) who lived longer than her friends was forever imprisoned in the dungeons of a monastery, without the right to communicate with journalists.

What Fatima’s secret was has not yet been openly disclosed (a deliberate leak of information allegedly read: there was “a command from above that Russia should be converted to Catholicism”). Rumors also claim that the Catholic Church allegedly hides the time of the Second Coming reported in 1917. Whether this is true or not is unknown.

On August 11, 1999 (the day when many predicted the end of the world), according to astrologer N.N. Glazkova, most likely, was supposed to give birth to some great man. She explains her guess by saying that the planets of the solar system were lined up in a cross - just as it was at the birth of Alexander the Great: Earth and Mercury “on top of the cross”, Jupiter and Saturn “on the right”, Uranus and Neptune “below”, Pluto and Mars “ left".

Themes of Christ and the dates of his appearance have remained popular throughout Christendom for two thousand years. And at different times, clairvoyants pointed to such dates for the appearance of Christ.

In the 1st - 11th centuries AD; in 1042; 19 October 1814 (I. Southcott); 1928 ["Atlantis" 1995, No. 1, p. 3]; May and June 1990; early 1991; 1992; October 28, 1992; 1993; November 24, 1993 (“White Brotherhood”); 1994 (F. Bonjean); March 31, 1996; 1998 (reincarnation of God according to X. Chen); 1999; August 11, 1999 (N. Glazkova); November 12, 1999 (R. Jeffries); 2000; late 2000 (cloning of Christ); 2001; and other years.

Where will the Savior appear? There were a lot of predictions for the year the 20th century ended. Many Russian clairvoyants almost unanimously asserted that “He will appear, of course, in Russia.” Hollywood films always placed Jesus in San Francisco, the French in Paris, and so on in almost every Christian country. The Americans claimed that “one of the new messiahs already lives in London.” Only a few, however, remembered Jerusalem, the place of Christ’s execution.

In the texts of the Bible, Jesus Christ himself and the apostles not only do not specifically indicate the day and hour of the second coming, but even directly speak about the impossibility for a person to know this (Matthew 24:36; Acts 1:6-7; 2 Pet. 3:10 and etc.). However, they pointed out some signs of this time, such as: the appearance of many false Christs (Matthew 24:5; 1 John 2:18), the spread of the gospel preaching throughout the world, to all nations (Matthew 24:14), the impoverishment of faith and love in people (Matt. 24:12; Luke 18:8), fear of the disasters that are about to befall the Earth (Luke 21:26) and the appearance of the lawless one (Greek ὁ ἄνομος) (2 Thess. 2:8), then there is Antichrist.

In the parable of the fig tree (Matthew 24:32-33; Luke 21:29-31), Jesus Christ indicated a way to determine the approach of the Day of the Lord: when the trees bloom, summer is near. When the “coming of the Son of Man” is “at hand, at the door,” the disciples will be able to recognize it (Matthew 24:33). Christ asks the disciples to see the approach of the Kingdom of God and to be excited (Luke 21:28; Luke 21:31).

As in the prophecies of the Old Testament, the prophecies of the New Testament say that the second coming will be preceded by many cataclysms (earthquakes) and signs in the sky (the darkening of the sun and moon, the falling of stars from the sky).

“And suddenly, after the tribulation of those days, the sun will darken, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken; then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven; and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory
(Matt. 24:29,30)"

According to the texts of the New Testament, the Second Coming of Christ to judge the world will be visible to all people on Earth.

Rev. 1:7 - “and every eye will see Him”;
Mf. 24:30 - “and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory”;
Mr. 13:26 - “Then they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with much power and glory”;
OK. 21:26,27 - “people will faint from fear and anticipation of [the disasters] coming on the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken, and then they will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.”

The following historical events were considered by some 19th century theologians (Joseph Wolff, Edward Irving, William Miller, Joseph Smith, Leonard Kelber, Mason, Winthrop) as the possible beginning of the fulfillment of the prophecy of Jesus Christ about his second coming:

Lisbon earthquake of November 1, 1755
Solar eclipse May 19, 1780
Two-day meteor shower from November 12 to 13, 1833
Edict of Toleration in the Holy Land, March 21, 1844
Religious revival at the end of the 18th and first half of the 19th centuries in England and the USA

The following people currently claim or have previously claimed to be the second-coming Jesus Christ, and enjoy the trust of a number of followers (the country and year in which they claim to be the second coming are indicated in parentheses):

Fyodor Rybalin (Russia, approximately 1920) - enjoyed the trust of about 7 thousand people, sent to a psychiatric hospital.
Sun Myung Moon (Republic of Korea, circa 1960) - leader of the Unification Church sect
Konstantin Rudnev - leader of the totalitarian sect Ashram of Shambhala (USSR, 1989)
“Maria Devi Christos” (USSR, 1990) - leader of the destructive sect “White Brotherhood”
Vissarion (USSR, 1991) - leader of the “Church of the Last Testament” sect
Shoko Asahara (Japan, early 1990s) - leader of the terrorist totalitarian sect "Aum Shinrikyo"
Grigory Grabovoy (Russia, 2004) - convicted of fraud on an especially large scale, spent several years in prison
Mehmet Ali Agca, Türkiye, 2010.

And at the end, the latest prediction about the second coming.

Rabbi Yosef Berger claims that 2022 will be the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. The Great Coming of Jesus Christ will take place in 2022 and will be preceded by the birth of a new star, announced by scientists.

In 2022, a new star will appear in the night sky. Its occurrence is the result of the collision of two other celestial bodies. For six months, this star will be the brightest in the sky - to the naked eye.

Considering that this is the first time that people will be able to observe such a moment without resorting to complex technology, then this is an important event in human history in itself, however, it may turn out to be even more important than we think.

The rabbi claims that the new star directly points to the coming of the Messiah. He suggested that this star would be the fulfillment of a biblical prophecy from the Book of Numbers, according to which the star precedes the emergence of a strong military leader.

Many Christians believe and wait for the second coming of Christ. Let's try to figure out when the date of the coming of the savior will come, what the Bible and such clairvoyants as the prophet Daniel, Vanga, Edgar Cayce say about this.

Bible about the second coming

The Gospel says that before the end of the world the Son of Man will appear on Earth and there will be judgment on the living and the dead. The Bible says that this will happen suddenly and no one can know the date of the apocalypse except God himself.

However, I would like to dwell on the fact that Jesus Christ is, first of all, the Son of God, because this is how he spoke about himself in the first person according to the Holy Scriptures. He always spoke about himself as the Son of Man in the 3rd person. Few people think about the interpretation of these words. Therefore, it is possible that before the end of the world a completely different person will appear who will administer a fair trial.

Prophet Daniel

This great biblical prophet had the ability to predict the future through his own and others' dreams. Even before the birth of Jesus Christ, he spoke about the date of his second coming. Through simple mathematical calculations, the researchers were able to establish it. This will be around 2038. Daniel wrote that the savior would descend from heaven and after the Last Judgment, those who did not accept the mark of the beast would reign with him on earth for another 1000 years.

Edgar Cayce

There are 2 versions of prophecies on this issue from Edgar Cayce. The first, the most common on the Internet, does not inspire confidence because it looks too implausible. People who have read the works of the clairvoyant Casey claim that this is just an invention of journalists.

1st version of the prophecy. At the end of 2013, somewhere in Central America, a 9-year-old child will appear, in whom the church recognizes Jesus Christ. He will be able to perform miracles and heal the sick. The boy will save the world. In a year or two, aliens will arrive and give humanity a choice - to stop wars and live in peace, or to be destroyed by them.

2nd option(more plausible). The Messiah will not be born again. He will appear in the same form in which he ascended into heaven, at the age of 33. This will happen at the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21st century, immediately after the Atlantean library, which is hidden under the Egyptian Sphinx, is found.

Vanga about the second coming of Christ

The Bulgarian clairvoyant did not mention any specific date for Christ's return to earth. She often said that this time would come soon and there would not be long to wait. Many true believers will sense his coming in advance. According to her, Jesus must come down from heaven in a white robe.

This prophecy is very similar to the 2nd version of Edgar Cayce, which says that the savior will not be reborn again, but will appear in the same image in which he ascended 2000 years ago.
