Names of the demons of Hell - a complete list of demons, how to summon them

Names of demons and their classification in connection with the seven sins

This type of classification was based on the idea that demons incite a person to sin. So, in 1589, demonologist Binsfeld gave the following interpretation of higher demons with vices:

  • Lucifer - pride and self-righteousness
  • Mammon - greed;
  • Asmodeus - lust and debauchery;
  • Satan - anger;
  • Beelzebub - gluttony, addictions;
  • Leviathan - envy;
  • Belphegor - laziness.

The names of demons are of great importance for black sorcerers and demonologists. In 1801, the occultist Francis Barrett published the book “Magus or Celestial Intelligencer” in London, in which he changed the connection between demons and sins. According to Barrett

  • Mammon is the demon of tempters and seducers;
  • Asmodeus - prince of the avengers;
  • Satan is the demon of deception and lies;

Beelzebub is the ruler of false gods.

In addition, the list of demons included:

  • Python - prince of the spirits of lies;
  • Belial is the seat of vice;
  • Merihim is the leader of spirits that cause infectious diseases;
  • Abaddon - demon of wars;
  • Astaroth is the demon of accusers and inquisitors.

Types of demons

Alphonse de Spina established 10 varieties of demons:

  1. Parks. These demons were credited with the power to interfere with a person’s fate and help him gain wealth
  2. Poltergeists are evil spirits that perform minor mischief in the house at night: they move things, do not let you sleep at night, do not cause much harm;
  3. Incubi and Succubi are demons who have sexual intercourse with a person, seducing him. According to the author, nuns are especially susceptible to attacks from these demons;
  4. Marching ghosts appearing as a crowd of people making a lot of noise;
  5. Household spirits are the guardian geniuses of witches and sorcerers, as well as all other spirits that imitate the angel from the book of Tobit. A person can also find his guardian demon;

  7. Demons formed from male semen - demons that induce fantasies of women in men in order to obtain semen to create other demons;
  8. Trickster Demons are demons that fool people by appearing in human form;
  9. Pure demons are demons that only attack saints;
  10. Demons who deceive old women, instilling in them the idea that they supposedly flew to the Sabbath.

Devils . In Jewish folklore they are called differently: “shedim”, actually “devils”, “rukhin” - spirits, “Lilin” - creatures of Lilith, “mazikin” - harmful. It is believed that the devils were created at the creation of the world on Erev Shabbat, on Friday evening before the onset of the Sabbath, along with other wonderful things, such as the rainbow, man, which the Jews ate in the desert, the staff of Moshe Rabbeinu, with which he split the sea, etc. d. Devils are usually characterized as “neshama bli guf,” a soul without a body. The Talmud (tractate Berachot 6a) reports: “They are more numerous than us. They surround us like a shaft - a pit.” The Talmud says that devils have paws like those of birds. To see their traces, the Talmud recommends scattering ashes or river sand near the bed at night. In the morning, traces in the form of bird paws may remain on the sand or ash. Devils can also be seen in the following way: take the amniotic sac of a black firstborn kitten whose mother was also black and burn it (the sac). Place the resulting ashes in the corner of your eye - and you will see devils. Until the next use, the remaining ashes should be poured into an iron tube and sealed with a cabalistic seal, because if the devils steal it, you will be in trouble. This experiment was carried out by one of the sages of the Talmud, Rav Bivi bar Avaye (known for his craving for mystical experiments). The impression of what he saw was such that the rabbi fell unconscious and could not wake up. The righteous of the generation prayed for him - and he recovered. It is important to note that at one time the sages cursed evil spirits from visiting our world. Therefore, the above means of monitoring them can only work in cases of extreme exception. The devils make sure that the synagogue is crowded so that people get tired during Saturday prayers; they tear the Sabbath garments. The devils can steal money little by little from people, but only if the money is lying without a wallet and has not been counted. The devils themselves use garlic (according to other sources, onion) peels as money. As already mentioned, devils do not have an ordinary body like ours. However, there is a body created from the elements of fire and air; the soul must have some kind of shelter. Just like objects of the material world consist of four components (and can be in four states): “afar” - dust (solid state), “mayim” - water (liquid state), “ruach” - air (gaseous state) and “esh” is fire (plasma), and the world of devils has a similar division. There are devils whose souls belong to the category of “afar”, and they live in the dust of the earth. There are devils whose soul is in the “mayim” category, and they live in water. Devils with a soul from the category “ruach” live in the air, and finally, the highest category of devils, with a soul “esh” (similar to a human) lives in fire. (Based on the authority of Aristotle and Pliny, Agrippa declared that the element fire is the abode of salamanders.) Devils, like people, arrange weddings, choosing empty houses for this (and if they have chosen your house for a future wedding, then you need to vacate it for three days , otherwise - disaster), give birth to children, and even circumcise these children. There is a legend about how a greedy mohel was invited to the circumcision of devils. This legend is told in the book “Kav Ha-Yashar”. The devils, if they are too loose, can be invited to the rabbinical court, “Beit Din”, and they will be obliged to obey the verdict. Finally, in later legends there is a division of devils into “Jewish” and “non-Jewish”. Over the period of the existence of the Jewish people, so many legends about devils have accumulated that it is no longer possible to say what is a product of folklore and what is a real ontological essence. Residents of Israel may not be bothered by stories about devils at all - King Shlomo expelled devils from the Holy Land. And, if they can appear outside the borders of the Holy Land, despite the above-mentioned curse of the sages in order to fulfill an important mission, then they do not appear in Eretz Israel.

Sh

Shabriri. A demon who lives in rivers, lakes and wells. It poisons the water with its poison, after which the water can lead to blindness. This demon is harmless during the day, dangerous only at night. Therefore, it is forbidden to drink water from sources at night if a person is alone. If there is a companion, then it is even worth waking him up, just so as not to drink water alone - the demon will no longer be able to harm two people. As a last resort, the Talmud (tractate Psachim, 112a) cites a conspiracy to annul the action of Shabriri: “Shabri, briri, riri, iri, ri.” With this spell, the evil water demon Shabriri turns into the rain angel Ri.

Shamkhazai. Azazel's assistant - taught people witchcraft and the use of the magical properties of plants.

Shahriron. One of Samael's 12 assistants, dark black in color

Shelhaviron. One of Samael's 12 assistants, whose color and shape resembles a tongue of flame

Shoded. A demon who lives in the fifth hall of impurity, called “Eywa” (enmity). Shoded controls robbery in this world and usually lives in the mountains, deep forests and rocks - where robbers usually hide. Together with Kefeng, he also brings hunger to the world. His name comes from the Hebrew “shod” - robbery.

E

Ava. A demon who causes hostility in the world. The 5th hall of uncleanness is named after him

Eliezer sarga-dapim. The demon, simply called "Daf" (leaf). When a person is studying some religious book (for example, the Talmud, the Shulchan Aruch or the Zo'har), and then leaves the room, leaving the book open, then Eliezer sar ha-dapim creeps up to the book and reads everything that the person read before - and the person immediately forgets what he has learned. Therefore, there is a custom among religious Jews to be sure to close the book being studied, even when leaving the room for a short time.

A bored and unhappy ruler of the underworld, Lucifer Morningstar abandoned his throne and went to modern-day Los Angeles, where he founded the Lux nightclub. Charming, charismatic and devilishly attractive, Lucifer enjoys his holiday - wine, women and music - until a beautiful pop star is murdered on the threshold of his club...

Bar. The bar in which the pilot episode takes place is called "Lux", which is Latin for "light". From him comes the word “Lucifer”, that is, “luminiferous”.

Boycott. Everything about Lucifer looks good and balanced, except for one thing: the show portrays a charming devil. Social activists realized this even before filming began, and last spring the American Family Association wrote a petition against the showing of the series, which collected almost one and a half hundred signatures from worried parents. They were unhappy that the film would portray Satan as a caring and all-around nice person. In the absence of a law against insulting the feelings of believers, this petition had no consequences, but Neil Gaiman, just in case, recalled that in the early 1990s, the comic book “The Sandman” was boycotted by the Concerned Mothers of America organization because it contained characters with an alternative sexual organization, and that this boycott turned out to be meaningless, and from the standpoint of today it even looks ridiculous.

The world of demons is changeable, it undergoes metamorphoses comparable to those occurring in the world of people, but often much more whimsical. Below, in very general terms, we will present the main stages in the formation of demonological ideas among Jews, paying special attention to the dynamics of this process.

Biblical literature It is quite modestly populated by demonic creatures, and the functions of the latter are few. Demons live in deserts and ruins (Lev 16:10; Isa 13:21; 34:14), they confuse the spirit of man, leading him astray (1 Kings 16:15; 1 Kings 22:22–23) and nothing that is done they do not happen except by the will of God. The authors of the Septuagint usually translated two biblical terms with the Greek word “demons”: seirim, i.e. "hairy" (Lev 7:7, 2 Chron 9:15) and let's go(Deuteronomy 32:17), presumably derived from shud, i.e. “destruction” (see Isaiah 13:6). The functions of these creatures are not very clearly defined. It is clear, at least, that they represent the forces of chaos and destruction, and their habitat is the opposite of the habitat of people - the desert and wild fields. It is there that the scapegoat loaded with human sins and the dove that cleanses leprosy are sent. Biblical demonology is not very differentiated and mainly serves to represent the eternal conflict between the world of civilization and order and those dark corners of the universe, deserts and sea abysses, where the remnants of the primordial chaos find refuge.

IN Literature of the Second Temple Era ideas about demons are structured, and the relationship between them and the sons of men takes on the character of a duel, but at the same time, the idea of possible cooperation also appears. Thus, in the Dead Sea Scrolls, the idea of a hierarchy of beings ruling over the forces of evil and lies arises. The leader of the forces of evil is the lord of demons - Bliyaal, Mastema or Satan. During this period, demons cause physical and mental suffering and are evil tempters with whom magical healers successfully fight, as can be seen, for example, from the stories of the New Testament and some apocryphal writings.

As for intimacy and cooperation with demons, researchers see here the influence of Iranian culture. So, according to the book of Tobit, created in the Jewish community of Achaemenid Persia, the demon Asmodeus(in whose name the researchers saw the Persian demon-deva Aeshma-Devas) tries to take possession of the pious Sarah and kills her husbands, but is ultimately defeated. King Solomon, according to the apocryphal Testament of Solomon, builds the Temple with the help of demons, which also resembles the actions of the Persian kings who used demons for peaceful purposes. This plot was inherited from Talmudic literature, which tells how King Solomon used the services of demons of both sexes during the construction of the Temple (Gittin 68b). The demons brought Solomon seeds of plants unprecedented in the land of Israel and water for irrigation (Kohelet Rabbah 2:7).

Talmudic demonology enriched with personalities, and the world of demons acquired a hierarchy. The civilized world turned out to be densely populated with small creatures invisible to the eye, and huge demonic creatures continued to live in the inaccessible expanses of the wild. According to one Palestinian legend, the whole world is filled with myriads of demons invisible to the eye, and the merciful Creator placed a reliable muzzle on the mouth of each of them. And only when a person sins, local evil spirits, at the place of residence of the sinner, are given the opportunity to harm him (Dvarim Rabba, Rei). According to another legend, evil spirits Mazikeen, were created by the Almighty at dusk before the first Saturday, i.e. their integral function in this world was provided for. Thus, the antagonism between God and demons is smoothed out, and the dualism of good and evil characteristic of the Iranian religion is not obvious in Talmudic Judaism. At the same time, the rich Iranian mythology had a great influence on the demonology of the Babylonian Talmud, while in the Palestinian Talmud the satanic army is represented much more modestly.

According to another view, demons were not created by the Creator in the six days of creation, but were brought into being by the “first Eve” (VT Eruvin 18b, Bereshit Rabbah 17.7). It was only in the post-Talmudic period that this mother of demons was identified with the demoness Lilith (see below). Talmudic literature mentions, usually in the plural, nocturnal female spirits, vicious and dangerous, called leiliot(or lilin), that is, nocturnal.

In literature Aramaic paraphrases of Scripture ( Targumim) besides lilin, There are also telane(eyeshadow or evening perfume), tihrare(midday perfume) tsafire(morning spirits), as well as demons of drought, storm and earthquakes (Targum Deut. 32:24, Song of P. 3:8 and 4:6, Ek 2:5, Isa 34:4).

According to one opinion, there is no way for a mortal to see demons. Only with the help of magical tricks, for example, by scattering the ashes of a burnt placenta of a black cat in a room, can one discern traces of a rooster’s paws, which is an indisputable sign of a demonic presence (Berachot 6b). Demons live in the backyards and basements of houses, in distant fields and between palm trees, some nest at night in the city bathhouse, and special devils live in a public toilet, located, according to the custom of the ancients, outside the city (Berachot 3a, Shabbat 67a).

Demons often have a human appearance, but, unlike people, they do not cast shadows. Night is the time of demons, for in the dark they can walk among people unrecognized. It is not customary to greet a person encountered in the dark, since a demon mistaken for an acquaintance can follow the person and harm him (Megilla 3a). The pre-dawn hour and the time that precedes the first rooster crow is especially dangerous. A person sleeping alone in his home can become an object of attack by the female demons Lilith-Leilioth (Shabbat 151b). At night, demons can take possession of the body of a sleeping person, and therefore, upon awakening, a person should wash his hands, in which the accumulation of unclean forces occurs; otherwise, a person becomes a carrier of demonic uncleanness, and even water taken from his hands is dangerous (Berachot 51a).

At certain times of the year, demons gain the right to rule over certain hours of the day. So in the period from the 17th of Tammuz to the beginning of Ava demon Ketev Meriri acquires special power and can harm lonely travelers and intrigues fathers who punish children. Ketev Meriri is shaggy and scary, he has a horn in his forehead, and an eye on his chest, and everyone who sees him falls lifeless (Midrash Tehillim 91, Bemidbar Rabba 12). But not all demons are so terrible: some, as we said, take on human form, others are like ordinary goats.

Thus, the Talmudic demons are completely material, and they have a certain place in the classification of all living things:

Devils have six qualities: in three they are like people, and in three they are like angels: like people, they eat and drink; like people, they reproduce, and like people, they die; like angels, they have wings; like angels, they know the future, like angels, they walk from one end of the world to the other. Some say: they take on any form and can become seeing, but invisible.
(Avot de Rabi Nathan 37)

Having a nature intermediate between an angel and a person, a demon, nevertheless, is much lower than an animal in its meaning: “Better than spirits is cattle, for animals work and eat, but spirits do not work and do not eat” (Ibid.).

Some Talmudic sages showed incredible knowledge of demonology. Thus, Rabbi Yochanan knows about 300 types of devils living in the vicinity of a certain city (Pesachim 111a). And here there was cooperation: in the Babylonian Talmud certain Yosef-Shida and Yonatan-Shida are repeatedly mentioned, that is, a devil named Yosef and a devil named Yonatan. The first is a kind of informant from the demonic world, and the second even testifies in court (Eiruvin 43a, Pesachim 101a, Yevamot 122a). Female devils, taking the guise of attractive girls, used to seduce Talmudic heroes and sometimes not without success (Tankhuma-Buber, Bereshit). One medieval work tells how a certain unlucky student of the Talmudic academy married a devil, made a dizzying career in the demonic world, but, missing his earthly family, violated the terms of the marriage contract concluded with the devil and was brutally killed by her.

Thus we come to the transformations that took place in Jewish demonology in Middle Ages. This topic is too large, and we will limit ourselves to the metamorphoses that the image of the femme fatale of the demonic world - Lilith - has undergone. In the Alphabet of Ben Sira (presumably from the 10th century), Lilith is identified with the so-called “first Eve,” who fled from Adam and, overtaken by the angels sent in pursuit, claimed that she had learned of her destiny to destroy newborns and therefore fled. She was forced to swear that she would not harm the babies at whose headboards she saw images or names of the angels who detained her. This etiological story explains the custom of creating a cameo to guard the newborn.

According to another tradition, when Lilith finds no babies to smother, she destroys her own (Bemidbar Rabbah 16:15). Famous Kabbalistic book "Zohar" claims that Lilith, the “first Eve,” cannot forgive the other Eve who took her place, and therefore hates her children. But there is still a strong desire in her to produce offspring with Adam, and in the absence of the latter, with his descendants. Therefore, Lilith is extremely eager for male seed spilled for other purposes and, having taken possession of it, gives birth to demons.

The sexual aspect of the relationship between humans and demons occupies a prominent place in the Zohar, as well as in a number of later Kabbalistic works. The descriptions of demons there reveal a striking resemblance to the succubi and incubi of Christian demonology. According to the Zohar, the souls of vicious people become evil spirits after death. At the same time, there are also good demons who are ready to help people; these demons are under the authority of Asmodeus, acknowledge the Torah and are considered "Jewish demons". According to the Spanish Kabbalists, demons are not created from the four elements of which all things in the world are composed (water, earth, fire and air), but only from two - fire and air, and for this reason they are inaccessible to human perception. However, demons are subject to the laws of nature: they die and decay, like all mortals. According to Nachmanides, demons belong to the family of Samael, who is the soul of the planet Mars, while Esau (aka Rome, pagan and Christian) is his subject among the nations. The Kabbalists of Castile associate the existence of demons with the last of the ten steps of the “left side,” that is, the reverse side of the Divine emanation.

And in Ashkenazi Jewry demonological ideas underwent syncretic metamorphoses. In the so-called “German Hasidism” of the 13th century, there was an obvious borrowing of characters from German demonology. So, on the pages of the main book of this movement Sefer Hasidim Strigas, vampires and a terrible werewolf who devour babies have found shelter. Rare medieval rationalists - such as Maimonides - rejected belief in devils, but the people apparently needed the existence of the demonic world. To this day, in certain places and from certain people, you can order a cameo that protects against male and female demons, and the expulsion of a dybuk was even recently filmed by a documentarian. Maase-bukh, a folk book written in early Yiddish, contains detailed Ashkenazi demonology from the late Middle Ages. Along with Jewish beliefs, magical beliefs of the surrounding peoples penetrated into Jewish demonology.

Demonological ideas of the peoples of East and North Africa are widespread among certain sections of the people of Israel to this day. The author of these lines once heard the following story from a professional folklorist. In the 50s, emigrants from Morocco and Tunisia, when their ships approached the shores of the Promised Land, they threw their amulets, cameos and talismans into the depths of the sea, believing that the Land of Israel was holy and demons had no power in it. However, either the devils also received entry visas, or the longing for the demonic world took its toll - demonology continues to exist and develop in modern Israel, but we will talk about this dynamics another time.

The demons of hell are the founders of all evil. Demons were expelled from paradise and took many with them. Their main goal is to create evil. For them, evil is food. And the greatest pleasure for them is to create blasphemy. The demons of hell consider God their enemy and do everything to harm him, and man himself is the weapon. Everything in our world is in balance: light and darkness, good and evil. Therefore, the demons of hell own the world just as we own it. Man has always tried to get rid of them, and is still doing so.

The demons of hell also do not sit idly by, they continue to do their dirty work.

Representatives of darkness enjoy all types of sin - pride, vanity, revenge, debauchery, quarrels. Each demon of hell instills into the human soul the sin from which he himself delights. But you shouldn’t blame the demons of hell for all your misfortunes either. A person always has a choice. Either follow the right, but long and difficult path, or choose the quick and sinful path. As a rule, most often a person chooses the path that the demon offers. After a huge number of sins committed, a person simply has no chance of going to heaven after death.

So he remains forever in the power of the demons of hell

During his lifetime they gave him no peace and after his death they forever take him into their service. But a person always has a chance to improve. God sees everything and, of course, will forgive a person. We cannot always cope with our sins on our own or get rid of influence hell demons. For this, today there are people who know everything about demons and even ways to fight them. Although it is not entirely safe, it is effective. But trying to get rid of the demons of hell on your own can end in disaster for you. Your attempts can lead to you becoming a “doll” in the hands of a demon, and that’s all they want.

What are the names of the demons of Hell?

This is the most terrible and dangerous thing that can happen to a person. Therefore, today very often professionals perform rituals to exorcise the demons of hell. This is the most dangerous ritual in black magic. I had to witness this many times ritual of summoning the demons of Hell, I have to say that horror films are taking a break. It's incredibly scary. Only when you see this with your own eyes do you begin to understand how real everything is. The man not only begins to scream in a strange, non-human voice, curse everything and speak in ancient languages, but his body also wriggles as if it has no bones. I described all this only because many of you decide to independently engage in expelling the demons of Hell from a person. You will never do this without special knowledge. But the risk that the demon will take possession of you is very high. Here it is necessary to create a safe environment for everyone present. And this can only be done by those who have repeatedly encountered demons and done everything to resist them.
