Plot

Yato is a little-known god without his own temple. In order to get at least some recognition, he helps everyone he meets with any desires. One day, a girl named Iki Hiyori saves Yato. However, she has now partially become an ayakashi (spirit, ghost), and her soul is separated from her body from time to time. Hiyori asks Yato to help her.

Characters

Main characters

Yato (Japanese: 夜ト Yato) - the main character, the god of war, who dreams of his own temple. Wants to become the most revered deity, surrounded by many followers. To make his dream come true, he undertakes to fulfill any human request, including searching for missing kittens. In order to gain followers, he leaves his phone number in public places. For a completed request, he charges a fee of five yen (5 yen coin, a traditional offering to the gods during prayer in Japanese temples). He likes to drink, often acts stupid and smug, but can sometimes be frighteningly serious. He has a sharply negative attitude towards suicide, so much so that he flatly refuses to help people who are planning to commit it. Yato tries to take care of Yukine in his own way, and even promises that he will independently raise him to be a worthy shinki (Japanese: 神器, "sacred weapon"). Afraid of being forgotten by everyone. Real name is Yaboku. He dreams of becoming one of the gods of happiness, but, first of all, in order to make those who are dear to him happy.

Studio Bones took on the film adaptation of the Noragami manga, in the Russian adaptation known as the anime “Homeless God”. The series is worthy and worth watching, despite the fact that it is not completely consistent with the original. The cartoon comes with the seinen tag, it has a fairly serious theme and concept. and hooks you from the very first episodes. The plot may not shine with originality, but high-quality art, dynamism, a few spectacular battles, and an excellent soundtrack do not leave you indifferent. In The Homeless God, the characters are well thought out: each character is endowed with his own character, without the typical templates of modern Japanese anime.

Plot description

In addition to the familiar world, there is another one in which ghosts, spirits and even gods live. Usually every more or less decent god has his own temple and believers who bring gifts and praise him. What if you are God, but have neither a temple nor your own parishioners? Fame and fame, of course, too. Who would want to follow such a dubious homeless creature who can't even take care of himself? So what should we do? Give up the dream of getting into the pantheon of supreme deities or come up with something for your own good? The little unknown god Yato chose the second path and took into account the realities of our time. Advertising is a great force: distributing flyers and helping to get orders. The fee is purely symbolic - only 5 yen, but the quality is excellent. And it’s easy to contact the person who grants your wishes: just call the specified mobile phone number. Yato is not picky and takes on various tasks from cleaning the room to protecting himself from bullying by his classmates.

One day, a homeless god throws himself under the wheels to save a kitten. It's only a miracle that a car doesn't hit a young man. The name of this miracle is Hieri. A high school girl pushes him away at the very last moment, but she herself becomes a victim of an accident. And the consequences are more serious than ordinary injuries. Hieri is now part ayakashi (spirit) and may end up becoming a ghost entirely. To get rid of her newfound gift, the girl asks, naturally for a fee, for Yato’s help. The homeless god readily agrees, but is in no hurry to fulfill the order: he has enough problems and enemies that Hieri can help him deal with. And the boy’s ghost, chosen out of the kindness of his soul, constantly gets into trouble.

“Homeless God”: characters and their characteristics

Everything, both major and minor, is interesting and well thought out. First of all, the main characters attract attention, but the ghosts are no less impressive.

Yato

The name of the main character of the series is translated as “stopper of the night.” His father's real name is Hiiro, also known as Yaboku.

Handsome blue-eyed young man. He is one of the lower gods of war, but most have assigned him the “glory” of the deity of disasters and misfortunes, however, this does not stop him from trying to become one of the best. Yato is a homeless god. He does not have his own shrine, so he is little known among people and unpopular among his colleagues. Constantly wearing a tracksuit and rather rude behavior does not add confidence to the strange deity. But the young man has grandiose plans for the future: to become the most revered and respected god and acquire his own temple. For the sake of his dream, he is ready to work day and night. It turns out really bad. It’s so bad that Mayu’s own shinki has found another owner, and the collected donations (read: payment for hard work) are placed in an empty sake bottle. But the young man does not lose heart and continues to draw graffiti with his phone number and an offer to help those suffering. Only a select few can see it - those who really need it.

After the departure of the tavern, which had served faithfully for many years, things went very badly for Yato. Without weapons, the young man’s strength became significantly less, like that of an ordinary earthly magician. And who needs such a useless deity? Maybe just one 15-year-old high school girl. And that’s because there is no choice.

Hieri Iki

Life was not particularly pampering for the 15-year-old high school student: constant bullying from classmates, misunderstanding from parents who forbade martial arts just because it was not appropriate for a girl from a decent family. One day, her classmates drove the girl to the point where she locked herself in the toilet stall, crying. It was there that she saw a strange advertisement on the wall, promising help and relief from any problems.

Deciding that there was nothing to lose, the girl dialed the indicated number. Imagine Ika’s amazement when she saw the “benefactor” proudly calling himself a great god. Maybe the girl would have refused his help, but life decreed otherwise, and now this dubious god is her only hope for salvation. Realizing that Yato does not have enough strength, Hieri does not despair, but decides to help him. In addition, agility, strength and speed in her ikeryo state only play into her hands in confronting numerous dangers. The girl is not embarrassed by the need to find a new shinki for Yato and earn money for the temple. What you won't do to remain human.

Yukine

The homeless god drew attention to the boy while performing his next task. The young thief remembers nothing about his past, but is sincerely embittered by the world. He envies living teenagers who can do things that he cannot. However, Yato was able to see the potential in him and offered to become his shinki - a weapon in the fight against ghosts. Yukine doesn't want to miss the chance, but she doesn't let go of the past easily. The boy continues to lie and steal, which hurts Yato, but he does not refuse him and offers to undergo a purification ritual.

Even though Yukine undergoes the ritual, she continues to be annoyed that she serves an unknown petty god.

In battle, after saying "sekki" it turns into a silver katana.

He collects a variety of people around himself, and these are not always friends. But the presence of opponents only confirms the well-known truth: it means it is worthy of attention.

Bishamon

The homeless god Yato killed all the shinki of the powerful goddess in the past. For which he deserved her hatred and found a loyal and strong enemy.

Bishamon (sometimes translated as Bishamon) is the goddess of strength, wealth and prosperity, one of the most important in the pantheon. She looks like an 18-year-old girl, but her real age is 3000 years. Very caring when it comes to her food. Strong sense of justice. The goddess is friendly, unable to control her anger only when it comes to Yato. He considers him a real evil that needs to be destroyed.

Kazuma

The homeless god once fulfilled Kazuma's request, which earned him the hatred of Bishamon. As a result of the death of his elders, Kazuma became the main shinki. He analyzes the situation and coordinates the actions of his mistress. Takes the shape of a stud earring.

Kofuku

In the anime "Homeless God" the characters are very different, just like people in real life. Some are ready to do anything for the sake of revenge, others are able to delve into events and adequately perceive what is happening. The Goddess of Poverty is not afraid to go against public opinion and openly sympathizes with Yato. She is ready to do a lot for him, even shelter Hieri and Yukine. Due to his gift of scaring away luck and destroying everything when fighting, he is considered a dangerous opponent. Even Bishamon is wary of messing with her.

Daikoku

"Homeless God" is an anime where all the deities have their own shinki. Daikoku is the only weapon of the goddess Kofuku. He adores his mistress, Hieri and Yukine even thought that they married couple. Very suspicious. During combat transformation, it takes the form of a fan.

Nora

Shinki and Yato's sister. The Homeless God and Nora have the same father, but different mothers. From time to time he tries to return his brother to his father's house.

She does not sit in one place for a long time, has many names, which is why her body is covered with a large number of tattoos. Considers Yukine and Hieri to be a burden for Yato, only weakening him.

Controls ayakashi using masks.

Tomone

Yato's former shinki. After leaving for the god of science, Tenzin, she received a new name, Mayu. She looks like a young dark-haired girl with short hair and green eyes. In the homeless god it took the form of a dagger, in the service of Tenzin - a smoking pipe.

He despises Yato, but at the same time considers him a good god and can help.

The anime “Homeless God” is a beautiful fairy tale about good and evil, friendship and betrayal. There is no pronounced love line here, only hints and a casually thrown “I need you.” But the realism and wisdom of some moments captivate you and you believe the characters.

:blue_heart: ❖

:yellow_heart: ❖

Thank you for your attention)))

Eh, another anime filled with rotten tomatoes without the caption "IMHO".
Well, of course, there’s nowhere to go: as many people as there are, so many opinions, but personally I wouldn’t want the subjective perception of individual individuals to spoil the impression for those who weren’t watching.
In general, a lot depends on what you want from anime. Because when my friend gave me this anime with the words “Well, it’s normal, such a standard shonen,” I had no idea that it would bring me to the extreme degree of despair, expressed in reading manga in Japanese.
Therefore, I will try to describe Noragami objectively.
So let's start with the shell.

Panache.
Impeccably good. God bless Bones: they managed to convey the original art without relegating it to the category of people-hawala™.
Special thanks to the original drawing. Two artists worked on the manga at once, and the result is obvious.

Animation.
I repeat, God bless Bones. Stamped inserts of henshin and other maho-shoujo bells and whistles are present, but they don’t completely fill up the time spent on the action, so you can put up with it and endure it.

Music.
Eh... A great opening, a non-irritating ending and some very impressive themes throughout the action. I will never forget the siren howling during Yato’s meeting with the ayakashi applicant for the position of shinki.

Voiced by.
I'm not an inveterate Kamiya fan, but I can't help but praise him. Because with such a memorable voice it is difficult to avoid being associated with other characters, but nevertheless he managed to do it. Same thing with Ono Daisuke (voiced by Daikoku). I had to go to the wiki to dispel doubts about the latter.
voice actor Hiyori - the girl shows promise.
seiyuu Yukine is the mother of God, is there really a seiyuu capable of crying SO believably?.. And expressing emotions in general, starting from embarrassment and ending with irritation. Prize for this comrade!
voice actress Bishamon - I have heard this young lady more than once, but here her work is beyond praise. Again, that rare case when you believe the voice actor. Stanislavsky would have praised her for her anger.
Kazuma's voice actor - oh, a difficult case... There are no complaints about the voice actor, he did an excellent job; there are complaints about the cast, see the “stamps” section below.
voice actor Kofuku - well, don’t repeat to me for the hundredth time that the work of a voice actor is beyond praise, okay?

Characters.
Golden theme. God without a fixed abode? A cute boy with the quirks of a noble gopnik? A quiet girl who can nevertheless roundhouse kick an ayakashi without being a total fucking tsundere? The beautiful and tender soul Bishamon, obsessed with revenge due to mental trauma, well, where would we be without her? Quiet yangire Kofuku together with noisy Yankee Daikoku? Suddenly not-hysterical Mayu, aka Tomone? And in general, adequate characters who are not stupid all the time?
Sorry, can I repeat the order?

As already noted, the female characters here are really smart. If you're a die-hard fan of flat-chested tsunderas, you've come to the wrong anime. Fans of moe sluts with breasts of a physically impossible size are also not here. Yangir scattering the remains of the object of sighing over the walls with an ax is again not observed.
It's another matter if you value naturalness. Welcome. No, the girls here are not the center of realism, of course, but they have a drop of naturalism and common sense (I can’t believe my luck). The figures of the heroines will also not disappoint you, and you won’t have to listen to the snot “I have small breasts,” which irritate a hundred times more than Oyashev’s sobs “ore ga mamoru,” by God.
By the way, Oyashev’s sobs of “ore ga mamoru” have not yet been observed, so we give it a big plus.
Regarding the male characters. Hang in there, female audience, a squad from the new host club is heading towards you. A goofball with piercing blue eyes; a kawaii boy stuck between cuteness and violence in the midst of a difficult period in his life; Yankee-kun, fiercely protecting his mistress from the whole world (or the world from her mistress, the devil knows); a little-gray-cardinal who does not forget debts; Well, a filler samurai-seeking-death, if Mademoiselle knows a lot about it.

Enemies.
Noooo, I won’t describe Nora (whose voice actress again pleasantly surprised me) or the filler villain now. I'd rather mention the secondary enemies, i.e. ayakashi.
So, design. Apparently someone complained about him, but I honestly don't understand why. Firstly, the designers didn’t mess around in the spirit of “it’s still an extra, let’s draw something ugly and it will do.” This is the case when they did a great job even on the background. The ayakashi turned out to be psychedelic and unique, and their voices, glued together from voices different people- this is truly a brilliant find. For ayakashi in Japanese folklore are spirits that feed on the negative emotions of people; and how well their psychedelic nature and voice, as if woven from the nasty thoughts of many people, fit into this idea!
An ayakashi clinging to a shinki is a really powerful move. Some people cringe with disgust, I cringe with admiration. We put a bold plus.
I was also pleased that the ayakashi were not portrayed as universal evil - negative emotions were and will be, but you need to start worrying only when these emotions get out of control. Due to this idea, the main characters do not walk along the streets, mowing down all the ayakashi left and right, but they may even be neighbors with them - not be friends, but just neighbors.

I would especially like to mention the cat from the fifth episode. Its kawaiiness goes beyond infinity:3

Plot.
He's still not bad. I won’t say that he is very original and sparkles with ideas left and right, but he is good. It is good even despite the fact that it was brutally torn up and altered in an attempt to cram 3 volumes into 10 episodes (the remaining two are filler, don’t forget).
The story with Yukine looks quite logical in both cases. In the manga, Yuki was initially a noble asshole, then his brain was set and he became quiet, in the anime, Yuki was at first quite tame, but went crazy due to imaginary loneliness (convince me that as a teenager you did not feel lonely even among your family and friends) and then was forcibly returned to the reels. Moreover, there are hints that in the manga the full story looked like this: during life, Yuki was a good boy, then his life went downhill, as a result of which he died with a disgusting character, then he was reborn into a shinki with the same disgusting character and as a result of the ritual purification was returned to a good-natured state.
So, in my personal impression, the plot in Noragami is still worked out, and even the broken anime version still looks logical and convincing. Although I can’t help but note that the shreddedness of the anime was reflected in the relationships between the characters, because at first I honestly believed that the main character would be shipped with Yukine. After the last episodes of the anime, I doubted it, but in the manga I finally saw who the authors were rooting for.
Regarding the ninth episode, separate applause. Everyone suffers so convincingly that the sadists died of happiness while watching it.
And there are no yaoi hints here either. Shippers will find it, of course, but I didn’t find it. Medal to the authors.

Humor.
He is here. Not stupid shonen jokes, but really good jokes, generated by the excellent work of a seiyuu or banter over cliches (my love for Noragami began with a skyscraper, anyone who has seen it will understand. Even the standard nature of such a move as boke-tsukkomi did not keep me from laughing hysterically). Well, plus some crazy jokes from the mangaka (what a pity that the anime didn’t include the story with the eyes on the shinki’s back, watching melodramas on TV while he sleeps XD)

Well, now I’ll move on to the unpleasant part of this anime.
Stamps.
So, this anime can boast as many as four striking intersections with other anime:
- Kazuma. It’s urgent to set the brains of those who carried out the casting. It wasn’t enough that Kazuma resembled Yukio from Ao no Exorcist in appearance, so they managed to choose the same seiyuu! The characters' personalities are still different, and the more I delve into the manga, the more they differ, but in the anime the similarity is simply unbearable.
- People turn into weapons (hello Soul Eater). But in general, as far as I know, this idea was found not only in Soul Eater, and does not cause irritation.
- The technique with which Yato either sharpens or illuminates the blade by running his fingers along the blade has already been encountered in D.Gray-man, hello Kanda.
- A blade without a normal handle, simply wrapped in a rag, can evoke associations with Bleach, and in vain. For wrapping a rag around the handle of a bare blade is a natural necessity.

In general, I am inclined to think that cliches are not so bad if they are used in reasonable quantities (two eyes in people can also be considered a cliche, for that matter). In this case, we can talk specifically about the moderate use of cliches.

Conclusion: universal sadness. Firstly, there will most likely not be a second season. Secondly, difficulties with translating the manga prevent people from getting to know a really good story, most of which was never told in the anime. How is Nora related to Yato? Why does Kazuma consider himself to be in Yato's debt? Who was Yukine during his lifetime? What's going on with Hiyori? And what, finally, are the authors going to do with the love line (and it will be there, I assure you)? The answers to all these questions will have to be sought in the manga, which has not yet been translated into Russian. And the answers there are interesting, because my manga is taking off despite my passionate desire to stop reading the dialogues. English connoisseurs can try their luck with English-language sources, and I will go on to train reading hiragana and memorize the meanings of hieroglyphs.
My rating is 10/10, don't blame the unfortunate fan.
Nanode shitsureshimasu.
