What they bring to a new home. Housewarming. Muslim customs for housewarming

Buying a home is one of the most significant events for a family. There is hope that life will change in better side immediately after the housewarming. Signs and customs associated with the celebration of moving to a new home have passed into our time from ancient times. Some of them now seem strange and incomprehensible. But without the past, there is no future, so people are happy to adhere to various traditions associated with this celebration.

History mixed with the present

The connection of a person with his ancestors and the traditions created by them is so strong that even technical progress could not destroy it. In order to understand where this or that custom associated with housewarming came from (in the old days this holiday was called vlaziny), you need to know how people used to treat this celebration before.

Best time to move

In the old days, people took the construction of housing very seriously. A place was carefully selected for the new hut, and it was erected by the whole village. There was a belief that if an oak bark was laid out at a chosen place, and insects appeared under it in a few days, it was impossible to build. But if they settled under the bark earthworms- you can lay the foundation. At the chosen place, silver coins were necessarily buried first, and only then construction began. The move itself was planned so that it coincided with a great church holiday, and celebrated by the whole village.

Nowadays, there are no such traditions anymore, but there are recommendations from astrologers on choosing the time to move into a new home. Experts believe that before planning the date of the move, it is necessary to coordinate it with lunar calendar and choose the most favorable day for this.

Everything will go perfectly and the Universe will contribute to this undertaking if it is carried out on a new moon. In addition, the Moon must be at this time in the sign of Taurus or Aquarius.

Bread and salt

Ancestors modern people believed that a brownie lives in every house. He was very much feared, but also respected, since it is he who keeps order and protects housing from evil spirits. Therefore, just before the move, the head of the family came into the house and left bread and salt on the table, and put a broom in the corner. It was believed that the treat was supposed to appease the brownie, and he would move to a new house only when a broom was transferred here from the old dwelling. Then, in a large room, the owner hung the icon and read in front of it. thanksgiving prayer God. After that, he again turned to the brownie, invited him to settle down and asked him to protect all those who would live here.

Since ancient times, people believe that the family hearth is a shrine. So that the house was always warm, and there was food on the table, the hostess took out several coals from the old stove, put them in a pot, covered them with a beautiful tablecloth and transferred them to a new hut. Here, coal was poured into the furnace, the pot was broken, and the fragments were buried. The tablecloth also helped to attract the brownie - they shook it in every corner of the new hut and uttered special conspiracies.

The right to enter the house first

Letting the cat into the house first is another long tradition associated with how to enter a new apartment. The signs associated with it also have a mystical character. It is believed that cats are very sensitive to otherworldly forces and can take on all the negative energy and ward off evil from their owners. Therefore, in the place where the animal perched, it is customary to put a bed or a cradle for the baby.

In the old days, it was believed that the construction of a house is always accompanied by the death of one of the family members, and this will be the one who first crossed the threshold. Following this logic, the primacy was given to the oldest, because even so he should leave first. Sometimes a completely alien, often non-Orthodox person was invited to this role.

Consecration and celebration

In the old days, no one would have dared to live in an unconsecrated hut, therefore, before settling in, the priest had to consecrate the housing. After this ordinance, preparations for the move began.

Most of the work related to the implementation of customs was assigned to the hostess. First, she had to put the old hut in order. The woman swept all the garbage and washed the floors. It was customary to collect some of the garbage and pour it out near the new place of residence in order to attract prosperity and well-being to it. Housewarming could begin after how the hostess performed the following ceremonies:

  • She fumigated with wormwood consecrated in the temple all the corners in the hut and sprinkled them with holy water.
  • Washed floors throughout the house.
  • Three times she went around each room with a lit church candle.
  • She decorated the front door with an amulet in the form of a horseshoe or a wreath of mountain ash.

The housewarming party was held on the day of the move. Very rich tables were always laid, many guests were invited. The main dishes were pies and various chicken dishes. Several different signs are also associated with this choice:

  • In order to scare away evil spirits and call on good ones, housewarming parties were made cheerful and noisy. To make the life of the new settlers clean, the guests at the table first of all drank a glass of vodka.
  • Freshly baked pies symbolized the hospitality of the hostess. She treated them not only to guests, but also to all neighbors. In this way, the woman wanted to show that she treats them with respect, is always ready to help and counts on their goodwill and help.
  • Chicken dishes were supposed to attract money and prosperity to the house.

A modern version of vlazin

And to date, housewarming has remained one of the most grandiose events. As before, the cat is let into the apartment first. By the way, you can’t “rent” someone else’s animal, it must belong to new settlers. Following the cat, the owners enter with gifts for the brownie: bread, salt, sugar, biscuits and milk. And only after that they begin to bring in all the belongings.

The first night must be spent in a new home. If for some reason this is not possible, you need to spread out the bed and put your nightgown or pajamas on it.

It is recommended to celebrate housewarming twice. On the first day, you need to invite only the closest people and share the joy of this event with them. And after a while, when the new settlers will feel like full-fledged owners in the apartment, you can arrange a big and noisy party for friends and acquaintances.

By the way, there are several rituals for leaving the old house:

Signs related to gifts

On any holiday, it is customary to bring gifts corresponding to it. Many people today adhere to old customs and believe in omens. Therefore, in order not to get into a mess and please the new settlers, you need to know what they give for a housewarming. Traditions help not only honor the memory of ancestors, but also show respect for the owners. In addition, it is recommended to choose things and items that will be a gift not to just one, but will be useful to all family members.

Most often given for a celebration:

Today, another tradition has come into fashion related to what to give for housewarming. Signs are signs, but new settlers are unlikely to refuse a slow cooker, a food processor, a juicer, a toaster or a good coffee maker. Thanks to technological progress, the choice of gifts has become much larger and depends only on the material capabilities of the guests.

Housewarming gifts, signs and traditions associated with them help not only to please the owners, but also to protect them from evil spirits and evil eye. Therefore, there are things that are undesirable to choose as a present:

But some of these items are still presented as gifts, having previously rid them of negative energy. For example, a donor can take a nominal fee for watches and wallets, and not give money from hand to hand, but put it in a beautiful envelope or box.

No matter how expensive the gift, it should always be accompanied by sincere congratulations. You need to go to the holiday with joy and with a pure heart, and leaving home with all my heart to wish the new settlers love, happiness and prosperity. And only then all these wishes will surely come true.

Attention, only TODAY!

"And now the half-dugout or hut is finally built. A small home Universe was created, and before settling down and living everyday, this Universe, like any other, had to be mastered. Scientists write that a simple, from a modern point of view, entry into a new house is still quite recently turned into a whole ritual action, which had very deep roots.

Ancient man was never completely sure that he really did not violate any mystical prohibition when choosing a place, timing and material for construction; that during the work itself he duly complied with all the necessary rules; in the fact that he did not slip past evil person and did not jinx the building, accompanying the feigned affectionate words with a bad thought. In short, it was imperative to test whether the hut turned out to be “good”, is it possible to live in it at all? Or did some kind of evil start up and, look, it will demand a sacrifice, kill the first person who enters the house?

Our ancestors knew well how to check it.
In the chapter " Creepy legends And scientific facts"It has already been said that the most precious victim, and not only among the Slavs, was a man. He was followed by a horse in terms of importance, then a bull (cow), and so on up to a rooster or cat. (Note that cats and roosters standing here at the end of the list, were by no means “the most unnecessary.” On the contrary, they were credited with the ability to see and drive away evil spirits.)

Experiencing the safety of housing, the specified row passed "on the contrary" - the person turned out to be the last. On the first night in the new house they closed a cat with a cat. On the second - a rooster with a chicken. On the third - a piglet. On the fourth - a sheep. On the fifth - a cow. On the sixth - a horse. And only on the seventh night did a person decide to enter the house and spend the night - and then only if all the animals remained alive, cheerful and healthy the next morning. Otherwise - "at least shift the hut", otherwise "there will be no life." According to the observations of ethnographers, this custom was strictly adhered to at the beginning of the 20th century in Belarus. And even in urban life, a belief has been preserved: when entering a new apartment, you should put the cat in front of you. However, few can now say why.

The chapter "Bread" briefly talks about the mighty sacred forces, prisoners, according to the pagans, in bread and bread dough: it was not in vain that, returning from a funeral, the first duty was to look into the trough, thereby expelling Death from the house. So, when entering the house for the first time, the owner certainly took bread or dough in a kneader with him. They had to drive out the remnants of evil from the house (if it still lurked there) and, of course, provide the new settlers with a rich and well-fed life.

And yet, despite all the precautions, the first person to enter the house was, as it was believed, in no small danger. Therefore, if there were deep old people "tired of life" in the family, they tried to enter the hut ahead of the young. In other cases, on the threshold of the house, they chopped off the head of a chicken and then did not use this chicken for food.

An interesting rite is associated with the entrance to the house of the rest of the family members. A ball of thread was thrown in through the open door; holding on to a thread, the head of the family himself crossed the threshold, and then by this thread he "dragged" other new settlers in order of seniority. Sometimes, instead of threads, they used a belt or "ruffles" - long shoe strings. This ritual makes us remember our fairy tales, where the hero often climbs "to heaven" along a rope or an overgrown lash of peas. The meaning here and there is the same: people are going to explore a new, unknown, "other" world. And as you know, getting into the "other world" - heavenly or underground - is possible only through the World Tree. It is, as scientists suggest, that is replaced in mythological representations by a rope or thread.

About how they transferred from the old hut to its new living soul- Brownie, described in the chapter "Brownie". In the new house, "grandfather-neighbor" was already waiting under the floor for a treat: a loaf of salt, a pot of porridge, a cup of water or a honey drink.

[Fig.3] Dwelling in Novgorod. Porch reconstruction

They tried to take with them from the old house to the new and the Share (it is mentioned in the chapter "He puts his elbows on the spindle ..."). It was believed that not only a person has a Share, but also a hut. The transfer of the Share was expressed in the fact that some "symbols of habitation" were transported from the former place to the new one: household statues of the Gods (in the Christian era - icons), hearth fire, house rubbish and even ... a basket of dung from the barn.

[Fig.4] Various balusters. 13th-15th centuries

Of course, not all rubbish was endured, only a handful, which they threw in the holy (red) corner, and the rest was carefully swept out of the abandoned house, so as not to "leave a Share in it." It is worth mentioning here the ritual of “cooking porridge”, symbolizing the continuity of the new hearth in relation to the previous one: the hostess heated the old stove for the last time, put a pot of porridge and cooked it until half cooked, then took it off and carried it in a clean towel to the new house - it’s finally finished cooking there.

It was believed that people with children (if the owners were childless, this was done by their friends who had already become parents), pregnant women (as opposed to "idle ones"), in general, young people, not old people. Why the choice was so, probably, no special explanation is required. Everything was supposed to contribute to wealth, profit, many children in the house.

By the time ethnographic science recorded the customs of the Slavs associated with their move, the ancient beliefs had already become fairly blurred, although some patterns were still traced. Indeed, in other places they moved "exactly at noon, in the sun", in others - "as early as possible before sunrise", but no one guessed such an important ritual by the second half of the day, and even more so by the evening. Even in those places where they preferred to move at night (this happened too), they made sure that the constellation Volosyn (Pleiades) stood high, and did not set. The name of this constellation is associated with the name Slavic God Hair, one of the rulers underworld, darkness of the night (see the chapter "Serpent of Hair" about him). If they decided to rely on him, they tried to choose the moment when his power was great!

Everywhere they tried to prevent the move from falling on a “difficult” day of the week (see about them in the chapter “Without the Trinity, a house is not built”): otherwise, they say, some kind of misfortune will soon force you to move again. And it is very interesting to note how the most ancient rule manifested itself in the Christian era - to follow the example of the Gods in everything. In some places, they tried to time the entrance to a new house to church holiday Entry into the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos!

The first kindling of a fire in a new stove is a whole separate issue. Enough is said about the mythological functions of the fire and the furnace in our book: after the holy corner, it was the second most ritually important place in the house. Here it is worth adding that the "ignition" of the fire was also a kind of legal act that secured the right of ownership. This opinion was held not only by the Slavs. The ancient Norwegians, who settled at the end of the 9th century in Iceland, recently discovered by them, took as much land for themselves as a man could walk around in a day, carrying fire. And in Sweden they still tell a legend associated with the island of Gotland: it was impossible to settle on this island, since it periodically sank under water. But after the fleet-footed mythological hero ran around the island with a torch, the "disgrace" stopped, and the island still stands quietly. It is interesting that, according to another version of the legend, the hero simply brought fire to the island. And at the opposite end of Eurasia, in Siberia, in the 19th century, Russian settlers at first did not get along with the local tribes: they did not let them build huts, stubbornly destroying at night everything that the Russians managed to build in a day. And only when someone guessed at the very beginning of construction to lay down and melt the stove, the new settlers were recognized the right to live in the chosen place. The hearth caught fire - it means that it is inhabited!

So the fire that ignited in the ancient Slavic furnace "secured" the newly created home universe for its human owners.

An indispensable element of housewarming is still a feast, to which guests are invited. Now for us such a feast is just a festive feast, the completion of labors and a reward for them. But in ancient times, it truly "sanctified" the newly developed space, even more firmly establishing the owners in it. Mythological beliefs are again intricately intertwined with psychological patterns. Many have noticed this from their own experience: sitting in a train compartment or in a hotel in a foreign city, at first you feel uncomfortable. But it is worth eating - and immediately it seems to have settled down, everything begins to enter into a familiar rut. So the first meal at the new table. The table, by the way, also occupied an important place in the mythological understanding of the interior space of the hut. In the chapter "Bread" it was already said that the table was called God's palm: it was strictly forbidden to hit it with a fist. They didn’t even let pets and “stupid” babies climb on the table, which, for goodness sake, would still desecrate it.

And if now friends, colleagues, those who helped with the move feast with new settlers, then before it was mostly relatives. They did not come to the table empty-handed: everyone brought bread and salt - so that it would never be transferred to a new table, so that God's palm would not become impoverished.

And besides, special meaning given to the very first guest. The first person to look into the new hut was bound to be someone thrifty, economic, decent, kind and generous - by no means a "lihod" and not an unfortunate owner who has everything falling out of his hands. But the neighbors and friends of the new settlers took care of this.

[Fig.5] Olisey Grechin's workshop and mansions. Novgorod. End of the XII century. Reconstruction

It is curious, however, that the hut was considered finally mastered, "consecrated", completely "tamed" and inhabited only after one of the key events took place in it. life cycle: birth, death or marriage. It was to these moments of pagan consecration in the later era that the Christian consecration was timed, which thus took place, sometimes several years after the construction of the hut.
Only from that time on did the new house truly become a House, in which, according to the proverb, "even the walls help."

The article is taken from M. Semyonova's book "We are Slavs!"

In the old days, a person changed not only the house, but the whole space, and everything is important in this space: is it possible to see the horizon, sunrise and sunset, so that the road can be seen, and there is water nearby, so that the neighbor is good, so that both horses and cattle had to. And the house itself - the center of this space, the most sacred place, was checked many more times. What if during the construction the wrong material was caught, the carpenters were not pleased, but they are an evil log? they put it, a man with an unkind look passed and jinxed it, didn’t evil spirits settle from someone’s envy?

The ritual actions of entering the house began a week in advance. Testing the safety of housing, on the first night they let a cat and a cat into the house, if everything was safe, they carried a rooster and a chicken, on the third day already a piglet, on the following days a sheep, a cow and a horse. Birds and animals are very sensitive and thus show the owner whether the place is "kind". And only on the seventh day people settled. It has long been noted that whoever enters the house first is the first to die. The first person to enter takes upon himself all the evil that may be present in the new place, or becomes a victim for trees cut down for construction. And if there were old people "tired of life" in the family, they were the first to enter. If there were no old people, they invited a stranger who did not believe in the devil or in God, and later they began to invite a German pharmacist or a German doctor, who treated such orders as if they were a game.

Bread, grains, and especially sauerkraut have tremendous cleansing power. Therefore, "sometimes the host could enter first with a kvass and an icon in his hands, followed by the hostess with a chicken, then the youth walked. The family's move was accompanied by the rite of transferring the fire from the old housing and moving the brownie from the old oven to the new one. The brownie was invited and invited:" Brownie ! Brownie! Come with me!". Or the owner, standing at the gate and bowing on three sides, proclaimed: "Father brownie and mother brownie, father yard and mother yard with the whole family, let's go to our new home to live with us!". Brownie transferred with heat from the old oven on a bread shovel, "with a pot of porridge or in a felt boot.

They entered the house by a thread, a rope or a belt. All these items are symbols of time, longevity, life that bind relatives. They carried with them both water and a honey drink, "they tried to take with them from the old house to the new one and the Share. It was believed that not only the person had the Share, but also the hut. The transfer of the Share was expressed in the fact that they were transporting some "symbols of habitation": domestic statues of the gods, the fire of the hearth, house rubbish and even a basket of dung from the barn. The porridge was carried undercooked and immediately set to be cooked on a new fire.

All these rituals were performed by people who had children, pregnant, healthy and mature, in order to contribute to wealth, profit, large families in a new home.

They moved into the house at noon or early in the morning, that is, into strong light. The happiest day for moving was considered September 14 (September 1 according to the old style) - the day of Simeon the Stylite, the day of the New Year, the day of lighting the winter fire - lighting the stove in the house after the summer. A good day is also considered the Day of the Entry into the Temple of the Virgin (December 4, November 21 according to the old style), usually the priest was invited to illuminate the house. Before Christianity, they cleaned the house in other ways: they covered the floor with sacred herbs. They set fire to chaga, celandine and thistle. They did "fumigation" - walking around the house with juniper and wormwood. Inside the house, consecration was done with the help of a torch or a candle, going around the perimeter clockwise - in a circle. They cleansed the house with prayers, incense. But the biggest cleansing power is fun and laughter. That is why all holidays are accompanied by friendly feasts and songs. The Creator gave the ability to laugh only to a rational being - man. Cheerful laughter - strong remedy fight against darkness. In Rus', the laughter of children under 12 years of age was considered pure healing, protective.

Particular importance was attached to the very first guest, it is desirable that he be an economic person, a believer, decent, kind, handsome. Knowing such a custom, neighbors and friends took care of such a sign. Then the feast began. Bread and salt were placed in salt shakers. Pies foreshadowed good relations with neighbors: "Don't buy a yard, buy a neighbor." Chicken dishes were set - a symbol of large families and profits. After the treat, each guest gave something to the owner near the "conic" - the stove.

But the hut was considered finally inhabited and consecrated only after the wedding, the birth of a child or death, after the experience with the house important event in family life.

Are you buying a new house or apartment and want to invite guests to show your new home and celebrate housewarming? If this is your first new home, you may not have hosted a housewarming party before and don't know where to start. A housewarming party can be fun and fun, at a reasonable cost, if the party is organized responsibly.

Steps

Part 1

Party Planning

Make a guest list. Start compiling a guest list before sending out invitations. Don't forget to include friends, family members, co-workers you want to invite to the housewarming party on your invite list.

Choose a date. Do not gather guests immediately after the move, because you need to unpack things, tidy up and decorate your home, but you should not delay the housewarming celebration either.

Send out invitations. Invitations to most parties must be sent out at least 2 weeks before the event. If the party is for a close circle of friends, you can invite friends a little later.

Plan snacks. It's common for housewarming parties to set up a buffet table so that guests can look around your house without looking up for snacks.

If the budget allows, order catering. You can avoid some of the hassle of organizing a party by hiring professionals to prepare the food. Make sure you know how to serve the ordered food and that you can pick it up on time or have it delivered on the day of the party.

Consider what kind of drinks you will be serving. Review the guest list and consider what drinks you will be serving based on your guests' preferences. If you are serving alcoholic drinks, be sure to prepare a selection of non-alcoholic drinks as well.

    Part 2

    Home preparation
    1. Unpack the boxes. Make sure your home is ready for guests to visit. If you don't have time to unpack all the boxes, at least tidy up the areas where guests will be: kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom.

      • Hide unpacked boxes in a pantry or stack them neatly in a corner.
      • Remember that during housewarming parties, guests like to look around all the rooms, so if some rooms are not yet ready for public viewing, they should still be in order.
    2. Decorate the house. Even if people understand that your home may not be 100% perfect in every corner, still make every effort to hang some decorations around the house. Absolutely bare walls make the house uncomfortable and inhospitable, so some paintings and decorations will give your home a completely different look.

      • Be practical while decorating the house. If you know that guests with small children will come to you, do not place breakable jewelry in their reach.
      • Make sure all your furniture is well-assembled and all hooks are securely screwed on so none of your guests get hurt.
    3. Do the finishing touches. Candles, a selection of good music, pleasant little things will make a favorable impression on your guests, and they will have pleasant memories of your new home.

Get yourself in order. Even though guests will look at your home, you, as the hostess, also need to look good. Wear comfortable but smart clothes. If you have to cook, wear an apron so you don't stain your outfit.

Keep pets in a safe place. Even if your pets are friendly, a large group of people can be quite stressful for them. Lock the animals in a separate room (remember to leave them food and fresh water) until guests arrive. This will protect your new home from additional dirt, avoid problems with guests who are allergic to animal hair, and make the animals feel more comfortable.

    Part 3

    Communication with guests

Greet your guests in person. Even if you have a lot to do, you should personally meet and greet each guest, and not entrust it to other guests. A warm welcome will be their first impression of your home and will set the tone for the whole party.

Offer drinks to guests. When a guest arrives, give him a drink. List the drinks you can offer. If the guest refuses, show him where the drinks are and offer to pour himself when he wants.

Guide the guest around the house. You may want to wait until a group of several people has gathered, so you will show them the house, and not lead individual tours. Guests like to look into all the rooms of the new house, even into the pantry and closet.

      • If some rooms are not ready, ask guests for advice on how they would advise organizing the space. Firstly, it will distract guests from unopened boxes, and secondly, it will give guests the opportunity to help you.
      • Feel free to ask guests not to peek into certain rooms. After all, this is your home, you don't have to show your guests every corner of it.
    1. Arrange snacks on the table. You can lay out all the food at once, or you can lay it out in parts. Start with 2-3 trays, then add appetizers or add new dishes. Invite guests to dine, and don't forget to ask about dietary restrictions and food allergies as well when suggesting appropriate meals.

Chat with each guest. Don't spend too much time with one group of people. Make sure all guests know each other, if not, introduce them to each other. If you are introducing people, try to emphasize what they have in common.

What can you give for a housewarming folk omens
Russian folk traditions and customs for housewarming
WHAT TO GIVE FOR A HOUSEWARE, INEXPENSIVE AND ORIGINAL?

Housewarming traditions in Russia

An old Russian folk sign at a housewarming party, the first to let a cat into the house.
This tradition dates back to pagan times.
In those days, the oldest member of the family was the first to enter a new house.
Previously, several generations lived together at once, no one traveled, no one exchanged money, and it turned out that the oldest could be very many years old.
The meaning of this custom was that the one who enters the new house first will very soon die in this house.
Here is the one who lived the longest in this world, and became a victim for the pagan forces of that time, who for this in the future protected the house from evil.
But time passed, signs, customs and traditions of housewarming changed, and some were forgotten.
People became wiser and began to let the first cat into the house, thus averting the curse from the first person who entered the house, and the sign of an imminent death does not apply to cats.

Another very popular sign in Russia for a housewarming party is where the cat lies, and put the bed there.
It is believed that the moment a cat enters a new home, it chooses the best place in the house.
Therefore, it was in this place that a bed was placed so that the sleep was healthy and the evil spirits did not disturb at night.

There is a very interesting old folk tradition leave the rooster in the new house for the night.
The rooster will spend the night in a new house - in the morning it will disperse all the evil spirits.

Folk omens for housewarming

At a housewarming party, it was believed that if there was a rich table for the guests, then for the owners the house was a full bowl.
It is not customary to give money for a housewarming party, the owners will constantly live in need, and every guest must throw a coin over the threshold of the house before entering it.
This sign is a kind of symbol of money rain, which should fall on the owners when they live in this house.

When moving from one house to another, take all the trash with you.
This is more likely not even a sign, but a tradition that must be observed in order not to run into trouble.
How can you know who will enter your former apartment.
What if the garbage you left will upset the new owners so much that they decide to take revenge on you.
And if one of them is also familiar with magic, then you will be guaranteed trouble.
Your energy probably remained on the garbage, so the blow will go to the one who used the left thing the most.
Another rubbish omen for new settlers.
If you take all the garbage from the old place of residence to the new one, and throw it away not far, then in the near future your well-being will improve.

The spider wove a web - he brought good into the house.
This sign is associated with fortune-telling, which was carried out by new settlers on the first night in a new house.
In the room that was chosen for the hall, it was necessary to put a pot with a spider brought from the old place of residence.
In the morning, if a spider wove a web in a pot, then prosperity awaited the family in the new house.
And if the spider also began to pull the web up, then soon one could expect an improvement in material affairs.

Dream of a bridegroom in a new place.
Such words were said by young unmarried girls, going to bed on the first night in a new house.
It was believed that she must definitely dream of her betrothed.

housewarming habits

Semenov's day (Semyon the Letoprovodets), the day of St. Simeon the Stylite, celebrated according to the old 1, according to the new September 14, by the Orthodox Slavs.
On this day, rituals were performed, marking the approach of autumn.
It was believed that this is the best day for housewarming.
The people said that on this day the new settlers are guarded and the forces from above help in everything.
It's hard to say whether this is true or fiction, but they say that the Russian outbacks still believe in it.
